Petty Award Presented to Ms. Cynthia Cannon

Ms Cynthia Cannon, Field Audit Office Manager Boeing Rotorcraft Branch Office, Boeing Corporate Audit Directorate, was awarded DCAA’s highest honor for an auditor, the Petty Award, during a virtual ceremony on September 17, 2021.

Ms. Cannon has over 39 years with DCAA and is sought out by many for her knowledge. She leads her office to continuously improve by applying systematic analysis and constantly improving work processes and customer service. A strong believer in teamwork, she harnesses the strengths of the individuals to develop the skills and knowledge of the entire team. She also has a customer focused mindset that ensures the needs of her office’s customers are met. This management style has resulted in great successes for her office.

Under Ms. Cannon’s leadership, for the first time in recent history, her Philadelphia team received a team award for their outstanding effort on a $5.1B audit of 159 Chinook helicopters. In her Mesa office, she set a stretch goal for their proposal effort with their new Defense Logistics Agency Huntsville customer and challenged the team to beat the customer’s expectations. The first proposal was issued two weeks ahead of schedule in only 35 days, followed by the second proposal issued a week ahead of the due date in only 43 days.

Ms. Cannon was selected to serve at the Pentagon in 2017 in an exchange program in the Under Secretary of Defense’s Office for Pricing and Contracting. Due to her exemplary ability to integrate well with others, she was called upon to participate in DoD peer reviews of procurement actions and write reports to Congress. As a result of her grasp of key issues and writing ability, she was tasked with writing DoD policy regarding shortening acquisition lead time.

Ms. Cannon’s everyday work mantra embodies DCAA values. She is the model of professionalism and positivity with a continued desire for excellence. Year after year, Ms. Cannon consistently takes initiative to provide optimum value to the DoD and provide significant contributions to the Agency’s mission. Ms. Cannon can always be relied upon to be innovative, interactive, personable, and is a positive representative of DCAA to the procurement community.
