Must I be a United States citizen to be employed as a DCAA auditor?

Yes. United States citizenship is a requirement for employment as an auditor with DCAA.

Can I hold dual citizenship and be employed as a DCAA auditor?

In a majority of cases, you may hold dual citizenship and be employed as a DCAA auditor. However, it is possible that you will have to surrender your passport and take other actions in order to do so. You should discuss your specific situation with a DCAA human resources representative prior to accepting an offer of employment.

What other conditions of employment must I meet in order to be employed as a DCAA auditor?

In addition to U.S. citizenship, DCAA auditors must be able to obtain a security clearance and are subject to random drug testing. Some audit positions also require that candidates pass a post-employment polygraph examination.

What factors are considered in obtaining a security clearance?

Many factors could affect a candidate's ability to obtain a security clearance. Factors include, but are not limited to:

  • Illegal or improper drug use
  • Criminal conduct
  • Dual citizenship
  • Foreign monetary interests
  • Involvement in activities or organizations that unlawfully practice or advocate the overthrow or alteration of the United States government by unconstitutional means
  • A history of not meeting financial obligations
  • Unexplained financial affluence or debt
  • Fraudulent claims of experience, education or employment history
  • Other conditions/actions that bring into question a candidate's integrity, honesty, susceptibility to coercion, and/or loyalty to the Government

Aside from the security clearance and drug testing requirements, are there any other conditions of employment for DCAA auditors?

Candidates should be aware that a number of positions are "mobile audit" positions and necessitate a significant amount of local travel to and from the various contractor sites. Although not a condition of employment, maintenance of an unrestricted drivers license and/or access to reliable transportation is strongly encouraged for candidate's being considered for such positions.

Does DCAA have career opportunities for someone with several years of auditing experience?

DCAA has rewarding and challenging mid and senior level positions available for experienced auditors at over 300 locations nationwide.
