DCAA’s Deputy Director Mr. Joseph Bentz retired at the end of December 2022 after 35 years of federal service.
Mr. Bentz began his career with the Army Audit Agency in 1987 in Philadelphia, Penn. He spent the majority of his career with the Army Audit Agency and held a variety of staff auditor and leadership positions in the Northeast and National Capital Region rising to be the Principal Deputy Auditor General. He joined DCAA in March 2019 as the Deputy Director. During his time at DCAA, he focused on increasing the efficiency and timeliness of audits leading to improvements in customer service.
During his retirement ceremony on December 15, 2022, Mr. Bentz was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service. The citation read in part, “Under his leadership, DCAA’s customer satisfaction has grown to 98 percent of customers rating the service as excellent, proving DCAA delivers world class service and support to customers, DOD, the warfighter and the Nation.”
In his remarks, Mr. Bentz highlighted how it was the people he worked with who made the job rewarding. DCAA Director Ms. Terri Dilly said of Mr. Bentz, “I have relied on his knowledge of DCAA, his leadership, and his sound advice to help transform my ideas into actionable realities. Joe is the consummate compassionate leader, focused on taking care of the workforce.”
