No one comes out of school - or the working world for that matter - knowing exactly how to do what DCAA auditors do. That's why as a new DCAA employee, your training will begin right away and continue throughout your time with the Agency. We offer a variety of professional development programs, and we also provide financial assistance to help our employees pursue higher education.
We need you to be the best you can be, and we're committed to helping you get there. Beyond the training DCAA provides directly, we'll also pay for:
- CPA review courses, examination, and license renewal fees
- Time off to sit for the CPA examination
- Graduate degrees in job-related fields of study
- Certain professional licenses and certifications
Specialized Contract Audit Training - New DCAA auditors receive specialized contract audit training provided by the Defense Contract Audit Institute (DCAI). DCAI courses are offered to employees throughout their careers and include topics such as:
- Orientation to DCAA Contract Audits provides an overview of basic DCAA auditing concepts to include identifying common types of audits, elements of audit planning, and DCAA audit sampling and reporting requirements.
- Technical Indoctrination covers the basic concepts, techniques, and procedures of DCAA contract auditing.
- Intermediate Contract Auditing focuses on planning and conducting a forward pricing proposal audit to ensure that the costs in a contractor's price proposal are reasonable.
- Effective Report Writing examines the audit process and instructs participants in how to write quality audit reports through effective communication and writing techniques.
The DCAA Auditor Training Curriculum provides more information about our specialized training courses (Please note: DCAA training is intended for DCAA auditors, and our residential courses are not open to non-government employees. Further information can be obtained by contacting email). We also offer a Leadership Academy to develop future DCAA leaders.
Continuing Professional Education - In your first three years, you'll generally receive over 300 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) to help you enhance your skills in the auditing profession, and an average of 60 hours per year thereafter. DoD Leadership Development Programs - You will also have the chance to participate in DoD-sponsored leadership development programs, learning alongside active duty service members and other Federal employees.
- Defense Civilian Emerging Leader Program (DCELP) - This program is a competency-based leadership development program for current emerging and aspiring leaders that consists of courses conducted by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
- Executive Leader Development Program (ELDP) - This program provides participants with an extensive exposure to the roles and mission of the entire Department. It is designed for high potential individuals who have the desire to progress into senior leadership roles in DoD.
- Defense Senior Leader Development Program (DSLDP) - This highly competitive program is the premier civilian leader development program to develop DoD civilian leaders with the enterprise-wide perspective needed to lead organizations and programs.
