When it comes to DCAA, auditors are one of the first positions that come to mind – it’s in the name after all. However, DCAA has an elite percent of the workforce comprised of professional support specialists across multiple work disciplines. Eric Ordonez is one of these professionals with a fascinating journey to DCAA.
Eric worked as a licensed physical therapist assistant for 20 years before transitioning to the federal workforce in 2020. After joining the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU), his career led him to a different path. He found his way to DCAA where he worked as a Human Resource Assistant before transitioning to the Department of Transportation for a promotion to a Human Resource Specialist before returning to DCAA. Now as a Human Resource Specialist at DCAA since 2022, Eric’s work specializes in benefits, retirement processing, and staffing. He typically starts the day checking for important meetings and tasks. A daily part of his workload is staying organized and making sure hiring managers have everything they need to support new auditors from the start of their career to their departure and retirement. His work focuses on customer service and highlights exceptional communication for everyone involved in the staffing process.
Working for DCAA offers more than the typical government benefits, “Being prior military, working as a DoD civilian gives me the same gratification I experienced in the military as I continue supporting the American people and my brothers and sisters in arms,” he shares. “I like the structure working at DCAA and that the agency culture focuses and encourages competency for everyone who works here.” Another benefit of his work is, “seeking the rare find,” the individual with exceptional talent who Eric knows will be a perfect fit for the job.
