Honoring and remembering sacrifices on Memorial Day

By DCAA Staff Writer

On the last Monday every May, Memorial Day honors the courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment of the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who gave their lives to protect our nation. Today, DCAA joins the rest of the nation to honor and remember. While many American families hold barbecues, attend parades or enjoy the unofficial start to the summer in their own ways, many also spend the day visiting cemeteries and memorials and participating in the national moment of silence to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. For some, Memorial Day is deeply personal and for others, those around them make Memorial Day special. Leslie Mehall from Headquarters shares, “Every year my neighbor places a flag on each lawn in the neighborhood to remember what this day is truly about. Each year I see those flags; I remember Memorial Day is truly about those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our future.”
