DCAA provides more than audit support. In addition to identifying questioned costs, auditors support contracting officers through expert financial advisory services. Auditors offer negotiation support, cost analysis, compliance reviews, and more. Services are tailored to meet customers’ specific needs and timelines to help stretch finite resources and prevent waste, fraud and abuse.
Recently, the South Central Branch Office (SCBO) demonstrated the value of these services when they reviewed a $600 million cost-plus fixed-fee proposal. The team’s work resulted in a $20 million reduction in proposed contract costs for this proposal. The SCBO audit team performed an in-depth analysis of indirect costs and identified a $17 million variance between the contractor’s proposed rates and the government’s forward pricing rate recommendations. Additionally, the team conducted a price analysis of proposed material costs by comparing the costs to historical purchase prices and discovered an additional $2 million variance.
These findings gave the Procuring Contracting Officer the necessary data and information to negotiate a fairer deal. “The SCBO team’s attention to detail and the extra care they took to tailor their analysis to our needs made a clear difference. Their input strengthened our negotiation, saving millions in taxpayer dollars and ensuring fairer prices for the DoD.”
