Defense Contractor Agrees to Pay $45 Million to Resolve Criminal Obstruction Charges and Civil False Claims Act Allegations

By DCAA Staff Writer

Unitrans International Inc., a privately held Virginia defense contracting company, has agreed to pay $45 million to resolve criminal obstruction charges and civil False Claims Act allegations relating to the illegal transportation of goods across Iran in connection with a contract to provide material and logistical support to U.S. troops in Afghanistan. DCAA Auditor Janet Leonard provided assistance in reviewing contractor profit, and revenue and contract cost calculations to ensure the calculations were accurate. She also provided research assistance to the attorneys on International Accounting rules. Her assistance was performed in a very short turnaround to support fast moving settlement negotiations.
