Joyce McKenna Presented Prestigious William B. Petty Award

Ms. Joyce McKenna is the Deputy Director of the GD-RTX Corporate Audit Directorate (CAD) office. She’s excelled in every position throughout her career and inspires others to approach their roles in a positive and energetic manner. As a result of Ms. McKenna’s outstanding work, she is this year’s recipient of the William B. Petty Special Achievement Award for Management Excellence.

Ms. McKenna continuously strives for improvement at her local office and throughout the agency. When assigned the Corporate Audit Coordinator role, she led the implementation of the Corporate Audit Coordinator Pilot Program, which laid the foundation for the Corporate Audit Directorate structure of DCAA today.  Additionally, Ms. McKenna contributed financial improvements by assessing roadblocks and leading innovative methods to pair data analytic and technical program specialists that identified new techniques for implementing data analysis and other efficiencies. She advocated for changes resulting in ten percent improved savings, equating to almost ten thousand hours of reduced worktime, for Incurred Costs audits. Beyond the numbers, she also advocated for supervisor training improvements and received approval for her recommendations that are still used today.

Renowned for leveraging and valuing teamwork and supporting others for success, her innovative leadership helps form a supportive work environment. A key part of her tenure is supporting innovative developmental opportunities for people and efficiently managing her teams.

Overall, Ms. McKenna demonstrates the DCAA Core Values in every aspect of her leadership. She advocates for participation and improvement opportunities for everyone and ensures she’s mindful of the agency’s mission and goals. Her attitude and commitment are testament to the traits celebrated with the William B. Petty Award for Management.
