The DCAA Nashville Branch Office has demonstrated how integrating modern digital tools can dramatically accelerate complex audits and deliver extraordinary value to federal partners. The team completed two major incurred cost audits months ahead of schedule. Totaling over $282 million in proposed costs, the team saved over 1,000 audit hours and an estimated $200,000 in taxpayer-funded manhours.
Faced with numerous challenges, including unfamiliarity with the contractor and working with a new contract team, the Nashville office achieved these exceptional results with the help of technology. Using generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) to conduct large-scale data analytics, the team reviewed multiple approaches to identify the best method to complete the audits. The team also used Gen AI to develop customized testing procedures and automate manual and time-consuming processes.
Additionally, the team used custom data analytic software to target higher-risk accounts without sacrificing accuracy and excellence. Going the extra mile, the team used creative procedures to overcome missing information.
This commitment to excellence reinforced the Department of Energy’s decision to transition and retain critical audit workloads within DCAA. The team successfully supported the transition of the audit efforts back to DCAA after the prior three fiscal years were audited by an external firm.
