April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month

By DCAA Staff Writer

The Defense Contract Audit Agency joins the Defense Department recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. This year’s theme is “Building Connected Communities,” emphasizing the importance of working together to make impactful and meaningful changes. These changes create strong, connected communities that take care of one another and ensure the safety and well-being of others to end sexual violence.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) calls attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and impacts every person in the community. Over half of women and almost one in three men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes. SAAM aims to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it.

DCAA Director, Ms. Terri Dilly, emphasized, “Stopping sexual abuse, assault, and harassment before they happen requires us to work together to support healthy, safe, and respectful behaviors and environments. Everyone in DCAA has a role in preventing sexual violence to help build a workplace that is safer, inclusive, and equitable.”
