Remembering Anita Bales
Fort Belvoir, Va. — Former DCAA Director Anita Bales passed away January 22, 2024, after a year-long illness. Ms. Bales served DCAA with unparalleled dedication and leadership for over 11 years, serving in both the Director and the Deputy Director position before retiring from DCAA on Jan. 28, 2022.

Rupert is an aspiring animated series writer who won first-place in the Creative Writing-Short Script category of the 2023 National Veterans Creative Arts Competition for his script, “Back to Fool.” E.J. will return to the National Veterans Creative Arts Competition in May of 2024 in Denver, Co. E.J. is also a part-time DJ, sings and plays the drums.

Fort Belvoir, Va. — DCAA Auditor Diyana Flores, Supervisor Auditor Sandy Porter, and former Auditor Janet Leonard helped discover Federal False Claims Act violations that resulted in a $600,000 settlement. The American States Utility Services, Inc. (ASUS) will pay $600,000 for knowingly submitting inflated price quotes.

Supervisors Conference Introduces New Ideas
Fort Belvoir, Va. — Almost 300 supervisors attended the biennial Supervisors Conference in Denton, Texas. During the three-day conference, presentations from speakers focused on developing self, teams, and technical skills.
